Cost of Thanksgiving 2021

Cost of Thanksgiving 2021

Everything is expensive this year. The pandemic has messed with supply chains and we’re going to feel the effects rippling through for a long time. Thanksgiving dinner is no different. According to the American Farm Bureau, the cost of feeding a family of 10 is going to be 14% more expensive than it was last year.

Most of the cost of Thanksgiving 2021 will be carried by the main event: that golden roasted bird. The price of turkey was up 24% over last year at the time of the survey. If you take the turkey out of the Thanksgiving dinner lineup, prices were “only” up 6.6% compared to last year.

The shopping list for Farm Bureau’s informal survey includes turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls with butter, peas, cranberries, a veggie tray, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, and coffee and milk for 10 people. This year’s national average cost of Thanksgiving 2021 was calculated using 218 surveys completed with pricing data from all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Farm Bureau volunteer shoppers checked prices in person and online using grocery store apps and websites.
